Scottie Scheffler said he would never quit in a PGA Tour event after his spell of 18 straight top-10 finishes came to an end at the Genesis Invitational.
Scheffler, 29, entered the second signature event of the campaign with Tiger Woods-like odds favouritism to clinch his second title of the season and 21st overall.
But for the third tournament in a row, Scheffler began with an over par score and was facing a battle to make the cut to keep his streak alive.
A visibly frustrated and angry Scheffler posted an ugly three-over 74 at Riviera Country Club on Thursday but bounced back with a 68 to make the cut on the number.
Scheffler, who hasn’t missed a cut since the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship, then climbed the leaderboard with a 66 followed by a 65.

It left him seven shots behind champion Jacob Bridgeman in a share of 12th alongside Australia’s Min Woo Lee and Sweden’s Alex Noren.
The result snaps a run of 18 straight top-10 finishes and also runs a run of eight top-four finishes.

“I mean I’ve never been one to quit,” Scheffler told reporters. “I mean, I’d feel pretty silly to quit in a PGA Tour event.
“Overall, being out here and competing, that’s what I love to do and, like I said, got to go out early yesterday on some fresh greens, get a little bit less wind.

“It’s easier playing in the morning than it is late in the day. Took advantage of it. Then I had another solid day today.”
Scheffler won on his first start in 2026 at The American Express.
It saw him become the second-fastest player to reach 20 PGA Tour wins.

But then out of nowhere he looked out of sorts during the first round of the WM Phoenix Open and again a week later at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

“You look at a week like Phoenix where everything’s firm and fast and you immediately flip over to Pebble where it’s cold, it’s wet, the greens are super soft, very slow, quite bumpy as well,” said Scheffler.
“It’s just a completely different style of golf.
“I think that’s one of the good things about playing on the PGA Tour, you see so many different types of test, and you come to a week like this where it’s another new grass, instead of being soft and slow, they’re soft and fast so it was challenging.”
Scheffler’s next start is expected to be the Arnold Palmer Invitational in a few weeks’ time followed immediately by The Players Championship.
He has won both tournaments twice in his career.
