Ghost frontman Tobias Forge has revealed that Ghost will go on a hiatus after their current Skeletour, as “physically and mentally, I need to be home”.
Ghost are currently on the North American leg of their current tour, which kicked off in April last year in support of their sixth studio album, Skeletá.
In a new appearance on Full Metal Jackie, the Swedish singer revealed that, once the current tour wraps up, he will be stepping back from the band for the foreseeable future. As such, the group will go on a hiatus.
The musician explained, “I’ve had two kids waiting at home with my wife for 15 years, and maybe that says something about me that it wasn’t a pushing enough factor during those years.”
He added, “Believe me, I felt bad, but I’ve definitely come to a point where I feel, physically and mentally. I need to be home. [My kids are] 17; they’re not gonna be around for an eon.”
Additionally, the singer-songwriter suggested that inspiration has been hard to find when constantly on tour. He went on, “The only way for me to come up with a new idea and get some new inspiration is to just step away.”
Forge added, “It is as simple as that. But it doesn’t mean that I’m not doing anything. I have two film projects that I’m working on.”
He also cryptically revealed that, right before tour, he was “recording another album with another thing.” Not only this, but the musician has missed out on “hobbies that I have put aside because for the last 15 years Ghost has been force majeure.”
Though the frontman admitted that, over the years, he has been afraid to pull back as he had “so many ideas and I don’t want to lose speed,” he finally has found himself in a healthy place: “I came to a point where I’m actually fine if the momentum is not there. It’s cool. I’m good. I feel good about that. If I lose it, OK.”
This echoes previous comments made when Forge shared that Ghost wouldn’t be continuing their tradition of releasing an EP after every full-length: “There is no EP coming. Besides the tour that we’re doing now, we have nothing else planned. So the future is right now very open.”
Ghost will conclude their Skeletour tonight, February 23rd, at Inglewood, California’s Intuit Dome.
