Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has entered a new phase of his life, having married Irish executive Sophie Shine. With the pictures and clips from his wedding ceremony going viral, few social media handles also began spreading misinformation on Dhawan’s personal life.

The 40-year-old has taken exception to the claims and released a statement clarifying they are ‘false’ and urged users to refrain from sharing insensitive statements in his name.

“I have come across some posts on social media attributing a disappointing statement about my personal life. I have never carried baggage from the past, be it on the pitch or outside. I firmly believe in the power of positivity while respecting my past,” the statement read.

“This is a new chapter in my life, and I feel truly grateful for the love and blessings I have received from my fans, friends, family, well-wishers and media. I strongly urge people not to breed off my name with clickbait, insensitive and false statements on social media. Let’s spread love and positivity,” it added.

Dhawan was previously married to Australia-based kickboxer Aesha Mukerji. However, it ended in a much-publicised divorce. Before marrying Dhawan, Aesha was married to an Australian businessman with whom she has two daughters.

Dhawan and Aesha reportedly met each other on social media, which sparked a friendship that culminated in the two getting married in October 2012. Two years later, they became parents to a boy.

However, in 2020, reports began surfacing that the two are heading for a divorce due to irreconcilable differences. Dhawan was eventually granted divorce in October 2023.

Dhawan in the past has opened up on his emotional state at having not been able to see his son Zoravar following the divorce.

“It has been difficult, but you learn to live with it. I miss him and speak to him spiritually… I feel through affirmations that I am conversing with him every day, hugging him. I put my energy into it spiritually,” Dhawan told news agency ANI.
