Manchester United have reportedly shown interest in Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White and he has not been shy of complimenting the club in the past.

This week, reports suggest Manchester United are eyeing four Forest players, one of whom is 26-year-old Morgan Gibbs-White.

Some of those rumours certainly have more legs than others. For example, it has been widely reported that Elliot Anderson is United’s top target for their midfield rebuild in 2026.

But with Forest dragged into a relegation battle this summer, a fire sale could take place, and Gibbs-White would be another star that Ineos may have their eyes on. He is expected to cost around £60 million this summer after his proposed Tottenham move fell through last year.

Ahead of United’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest in November, Morgan Gibbs-White spoke very highly of the Red Devils in his pre-match comments.

Gibbs-White pointed out United’s ‘grit and determination’, while suggesting he was happy to see Manchester United returning to their best.

“You are really starting to see how Man United should be playing,” Gibbs-White said.

“You know that grit and that determination to want and play for the badge, I feel it is incredible to see it, and I feel like it’s something that the league has missed.”

Gibbs-White ended up scoring for Forest in the 2-2 draw at the City Ground. He will likely feature at Old Trafford when Forest face United on 17 May.

Where Morgan Gibbs-White fits into Man Utd rebuild

As Forest’s captain, Gibbs-White has started every game for the Premier League side this season.

However, if he made the move to United he would face fierce competition for a spot in the starting XI.

As an attacking midfielder, Gibbs-White would be competing with Bruno Fernandes for the advanced position in Michael Carrick’s 4-2-3-1 formation.

Now, it is not yet known which manager will lead United into 2026/27, so a new formation could make space for Gibbs-White, but Fernandes’ remarkable injury record means he would likely be playing second fiddle.

There is also competition from the likes of Matheus Cunha, who wants to play centrally, and Mason Mount, who also prefers a No.10 role.
