Officers will be conducting high visibility patrols in the Page Hall area tonight following a disturbance at Fir Vale Academy in Owler Lane in Sheffield earlier today.
We were called at around midday today (Thursday 26 February) to support school staff in the response after an altercation led to broader pockets of disorder among students in the school grounds.Â
Several staff members and students received minor injuries which did not require medical treatment. One staff member was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening or life changing and were not the result of an assault. They have since been discharged.
There is no evidence of weapons being used during the disturbance. No arrests have been made in connection to the incident and an investigation is underway.Â
Pupils were able to leave the premises safely at the end of the school day.Â
Sheffield Superintendent Paul Ferguson said: “We understand this incident will have caused significant concern in the local community, especially for families who had children in school at the time.
“Our officers will remain in the area conducting intensive, high visibility patrols and enquiries throughout this evening and into the early hours of tomorrow morning and we will continue to work closely with the school and key partners to ensure the school is a safe and welcoming environment.
“If you have any concerns or questions please do stop and talk to them, they are there to listen and help where they can.”
Our officers will remain in the area and continue to support the school and local community tomorrow (Friday 27 February).Â
Further updates will be communicated via our website or official social media channels when available.
