Castleford Tigers have allowed promising young half-back Jenson Windley to join up with Salford RLFC on loan.
Windley joins Mike Grady’s Salford on a week to week basis, with the Tigers having the option to cancel the loan take him back to Wheldon Road when they see fit.
The playmaker is highly rated at Castleford, but he hasn’t featured under Ryan Carr just yet, with the head coach selecting the overseas pair of Tom Weaver and Daejarn Asi in the halves so far this season.
As such, Windley will go to Salford to pick up some much needed minutes and he’ll get them at a high standard, too, with the phoenix club looking to build some momentum after picking up their first win of the Championship season last time out.
This weekend, Grady takes his side to Doncaster, who have struggled for consistency early in the season, and another win would see Salford start to kick on towards the top half of the table. Games against Workington Town and London Broncos follow in March, with the latter fixture in particular set to be a real test for Salford.
Windley will hope to feature as much as he can in a Salford jersey and build on what he has been a bright start to his young career.
The Hull-born 19-year-old made his debut for the Tigers in August 2024 and he managed to score a first senior try against his hometown club Hull FC the week after. He went on to make five appearances under Craig Lingard at Castleford before linking up with the head coach at Sheffield Eagles last season for a loan spell, where he scored two tries in six games.
He made three appearances for the Tigers towards the back end of last season, but so far, he hasn’t managed to force his way into Carr’s immediate plans.
