MacGyver, the action adventure starring Lucas Till and Tristin Mays, has found a new streaming home in the UK.

The series, a reboot of the show that aired between 1985 and 1992, follows Angus ‘Mac’ MacGyver (Till), a secret government agent who possesses an extraordinary talent for “unconventional” problem solving.

Premiering in 2016, the reboot ran for five seasons and 94 episodes before its cancellation in 2021, but it has found a new home in the UK after all instalments were added to 5. Handily, there’s still plenty of time to view the series as it will remain there until June 2027.

In addition to Till and Mays, the cast for MacGyver includes George Eads, Sandrine Holt, Justin Hires and Meredith Eaton, with Peter M Lenkov serving as the series’ developer, showrunner and executive producer.

Despite running for just under 100 episodes, the series received a mixed response from critics and audiences throughout its run, with its user rating on IMDb currently standing at 5.5 out of 10 from 24,000 reviews.

“Not only does it lack the charm and over the top tongue in cheek that made the original so endearing, this version is too dark and serious,” noted one user, adding that it was “less a reboot than a totally different concept”.

“The entire thing is not nearly as suspenseful, memorable, intelligent as the original. It’s almost a parody,” wrote one other viewer, while another called it “repetitive” and “boring” due to the “terrible” writing.

There were some more positive reviews, though, with one viewer calling it “underrated” and “fun” as they wrote: “It’s not as bad as the reviews says. It’s a funny cool silly action show. Fun to watch.”

“Lucas Till has the MacGyver torch passed to him and he fits the role brilliantly. I grew up loving the classic series with Richard Dean Anderson but this fresh, modern reboot has my happy approval!” said another enthusiastic viewer.

If medical dramas are more suited to your taste than action thrillers, then 5 could whet your appetite with all six seasons and 107 episodes of The Resident. The series, which ran from 2018 until 2023, recently trended on the streamer.

MacGyver is streaming now on 5.
