An investigation has been launched after a young person was struck and fatally injured by a train at a level crossing.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) said it happened at Bottesford railway crossing in Leicestershire at about 12:00 GMT on 25 January.

On Friday, the RAIB said it hoped to determine what happened in the run-up to the fatal incident, the site’s history of accidents, and any risk factors associated with the crossing.

A spokesperson added: “We will publish our findings, including any recommendations to improve safety, at the conclusion of our investigation.”
