Liam Knight has agreed a termination of his contract with Hull FC and has played his last game for the club.. Hull Live understands the player and club have mutually agreed an exit, ending speculation on the players future.

Knight was first reported to be looking for an NRL move by Australian media back in November. However, those reports were quickly squashed by the club, with the prop also reaffirming his commitment to Hull via social media for the 2026 season.

But now the player is set to leave the Black and Whites, with homesickness cited as the main factor. Knight got engaged to Channel 9 reporter Danika Mason in the off-season, and is understood to desire a move back to Australia to be closer to her.

Cutting a frustrated figure at the start of the season, Knight was sin binned for a careless tackle at Wigan Warriors last week in a play John Cartwright called ‘a ten on the dumb scale.’ To date, the player has made 22 appearances for the club, 19 of which came last season before his campaign was cut short with a foot injury.

The 31-year-old signed a one year extension to his Hull contract last summer after a sequence of strong displays. He arrived at the club last February after special salary cap and quota dispensation was granted following a season ending injury to Ligi Sao – a scenario Hull can repeat this year after an ACL injury to full-back Will Pryce last week.

And Knight’s exit will only increase those recruitment options. As it stands, Hull, who are open to bringing in a new player with cap dispensation, are restricted to domestic players, with Knight one of ten quota players in the 2026 squad. His exit opens a spot for Hull to recruit overseas, with the club open to all possibilities – and not just the full-back spot.

Hull have options at full-back, with Davy Litten deputising in the role against York Knights on Friday night. The trio of Zak Hardaker, Logan Moy, and Lloyd Kemp can also play there.

And with a rising injury total – including both senior back rowers Joe Batchelor and Jed Cartwright – the club could be drawn to recruiting elsewhere. They are all options John Cartwright confirmed to Hull Live that the club will weigh up this week, with no final decision rushed.

But Knight’s departure will open things up further as discussions on what Hull do next become a high priority. The Black and Whites are next in action against Wakefield Trinity on Thursday night.
