Hull FC have shared a brief statement to confirm that overseas forward Liam Knight has been released from the club with immediate effect.
Knight, who joined the club at a similar stage of the season in 2025, will return to Australia with the club citing ‘compassionate grounds’ as the reason for his release.
The prop forward joined in early 2025 as a replacement for Ligi Sao who had suffered a season-ending injury.
With full-back Will Pryce having suffered a season-ending injury, the departure of Knight means that Hull FC are now able to bring in an overseas player, just as they were able to do so in 2025 when they signed Knight.
The 31-year-old started at prop in all three of the Black and Whites’ Super League games this season, including Friday night’s defeat to York Knights. Just under 24 hours later and the club have now confirmed his release.
Hull FC release Liam Knight
A statement from Hull FC read: “Hull FC can confirm that Liam Knight has been released with immediate effect.
“The club has mutually agreed to release the player from the remainder of his contract to return to Australia on compassionate grounds.
“Knight joined the club during the 2025 campaign, and made 22 appearances for the Black & Whites.
“The club would like to thank Liam for his contributions to the club over the past 12-months, and wish him the best of luck for his future endeavours in the sport.”
Knight had been subject to reports of NRL interest at the end of the 2025 season and it’s likely that he’ll find a new team quite quickly given his talent.
As for Hull FC, it means that they now have an overseas quota space available with the Black and Whites likely to look to either replace Knight and strengthen their pack, or possibly even look to find an injury replacement for Will Pryce.
