Coronation Street star Tony Maudsley has confirmed the future of his character on the ITV soap. The actor, who plays George Shuttleworth, announced that his contract had been renewed in a celebratory Instagram post.
The post featured a picture of Maudsley grinning and holding his drink up in a toast, while the caption read: “New contract? Cheers Corrie, don’t mind if I do. (I bit their hand off!) Can’t wait to see what’s around the corner for George (aside from more corpses).”
Though he didn’t mention the length of his contract, the comment section was filled with congratulatory messages from delighted fans, eager to see how George’s story progresses.
“Well done Tony, would be a loss if George wasnt on Corrie,” wrote one, with another agreeing: “Love George’s character on Corrie, look forward to it. Also, you look very dapper, congratulations.”

This week, things go from bad to worse as Shuttleworth’s receives a flurry of negative reviews online, courtesy of disgruntled customer Annie. But when Christina reports Annie to the police for defamation of character, George finds himself hauled into the station for questioning.
