Ringland Medical Practice, located within the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board area, received the positive feedback following an inspection by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) on October 17, 2025.

The HIW report, published on January 17, 2026, described the surgery as purpose built, “modern, visibly clean and welcoming,” and highlighted good infection prevention and control measures, fire safety, and equipment testing.

Emergency drugs and equipment were found to be well stocked and regularly checked, and clinical areas were supported by clear cleaning schedules.

The report said: “Patient experience was described as generally positive.”

Three-quarters of the 16 patients surveyed rated the service as good or very good.

Most respondents said clinicians explained things clearly, listened to them, and treated them with dignity and respect.

Ringland Medical Practice offers a wide range of services, including chronic disease management and annual review clinics.

The practice is supported by a multidisciplinary team including GPs, advanced nurse practitioners, practice nurses, healthcare support workers, phlebotomists, and pharmacists.

The appointment system was praised for effective clinical assessment and prioritisation, with GP triage each morning.

Patients are offered same day or routine appointments, advice, or signposting, depending on need.

About half of those surveyed said they were able to secure same day and routine appointments.

A new telephone system was reported to have “increasingly” improved access, according to staff and patient participation group members.

Other areas of good practice highlighted in the report included strong clinical record keeping and regular clinical forums covering palliative care, safeguarding, significant events, and urgent cancer referrals.

HIW noted that advanced nurse practitioner notes were of a “notable standard” and that the practice was also commended for its awareness of local needs, including deprivation and complex long‑term conditions, and for working with other services and cluster practices to strengthen support.

While no major concerns were identified, HIW did recommend some improvements.

These included better promotion of a private side room at reception, recording offers of chaperones in patient notes, routinely capturing patients’ language and communication needs, and including high-level cleaning in schedules.

The report confirmed that an improvement plan is already in place to address these areas.
