At the Indian Wells Tennis Tournament held in California, USA, national athlete Zeynep Sönmez defeated McCartney Kessler of the USA in the first round of the women’s singles match and advanced to the second round.

Competing in the WTA 1000 level tournament, the 23-year-old national athlete defeated her rival McCartney Kessler 2-0 with sets of 7-6 and 6-0.

The national tennis player, who won the first set in a tie-break, won the second set without giving a game to her opponent.

With this result, Zeynep Sönmez also succeeded in becoming the first Turkish tennis player to win in Indian Wells main table match.

Zeynep will face world number 22 Anna Kalinskaya in the second round.
