Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain admits he’d love a reunion with best pal Andy Robertson at Celtic Park.
Former Liverpool star Oxlade-Chamberlain, 32, shared a dressing room with Robertson at Anfield for years – lifting the Premier League and Champions League. The pair struck up a close bond, with Oxlade-Chamberlain seeking out the Scotland left-back for advice over a blockbuster move to Glasgow.
Hoops-daft Robertson, 31, immediately sold the ex-England and Arsenal star on a switch north of the border. But Oxlade-Chamberlain confessed he already knew all about the club – from the first minute he met Robbo.
He told the Celtic FC Podcast: “Yeah, we were very close with Robbo and his family, his mum and dad.
“We were next door neighbours for years, so I knew about Celtic and Glasgow, to be honest, from them for years. Robbo makes it no secret what he thinks about this club.
“And yeah, when I was linked, he was the first one who called me and said, ‘get yourself up there now’.
“But I’m obviously really close with Robbo and his missus and his kids, and my missus is really close with them also, so we get on really well with them.”
Robertson – who was released as a schoolboy by Celtic for being too small – has been persistently linked with a sensational return to his boyhood club.
The Scotland captain is out of contract with Liverpool this summer and it remains to be seen whether he’ll commit his future to Anfield after slipping behind Milos Kerkez in the pecking order.
But Oxlade-Chamberlain teased he’d love to be reunited with Robertson at Celtic – insisting the left-back would be a revelation.
He said: “Having him as a reference point was perfect for me. He’s told me where I need to live, where I need to go.
“He’s told me everything. He’s a proper Glasgow boy… I just said to him, ‘It’s a shame you’re not here with me.’
“Maybe I came a bit early… he might join me soon. He’s a bit younger than me, Robbo. I’d hope to see him here one day. I think he’d be amazing here.”
