Actions will speak louder than words for Hull KR this weekend following their humiliating defeat to Leeds Rhinos last time out.
That’s according to head coach Willie Peters, who watched on as his side were beaten 58-6 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday night. It was a performance that was out of character for the Robins, who won the World Club Challenge the previous week to become world champions, but it was also one that left a bitter taste in the mouths of everyone associated with the east Hull outfit.
They have the opportunity to set the record straight somewhat when they travel to face Huddersfield Giants at the Accu Stadium on Sunday and Peters will be looking for a response.
“Obviously what I said after the match is pretty much how I felt and I’ll probably leave it there,” Peters said in his press conference earlier this afternoon. “We were beaten in every area and Leeds were outstanding and we were the opposite. The focus is just what we do going forward.
“We’ve looked at it, spoken about it and now it’s about resetting and moving forward.
“Everything I said after the match, I still feel the same as what I said after the match. It was nowhere near the performance that is required from us and we’re all included in that. I want to see action off the back of it now and that’s where I’ll leave it.
“Training-wise it’s been really positive, so we’ve just finished our training session then. There’s been good energy around the group and when we did discuss it and look at it, the energy wasn’t there which is understandable, but we’ve spoke as a group about actions now as we want to make sure we action a response and not talk about it.
“It’s every individual and I’m included. I’ve done a lot of talking on what I saw and what I felt and that’s pretty much it. It’s up to every individual, leaders included to make sure that we train and play, recover and prep the way we should be. The most important thing now is actions.”
Willie Peters won’t confirm his 21-man squad until Friday afternoon and while he has confirmed that the travelling group emerged from the contest unscathed, he stopped short of confirming changes would be on the way.
“Everyone from the weekend came through OK, so that’s a positive,” he said.
Asked if KR fans can expect changes, he said: “We’ll wait and see. You could look at it two ways, we can make changes or we can give guys an opportunity to redeem themselves and that’s something we decide later on in the week.”
