A police investigation has been launched after human remains were discovered in a Northumberland woodland. Officers are currently on scene in East Fleetham near Beadnell, following the discovery.

Northumbria Police say the remains were found on Sunday evening in a wooded area. It is currently not known how long the remains have been there for.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 9pm on Sunday (August 3) we received a report that human remains had been found in a wooded area in East Fleetham near Beadnell. An investigation has been launched. Officers currently remain at the scene and enquiries remain ongoing.”

The force is currently making inquiries to establish the identity of the body and the circumstances leading to the death.
