Emmerdale has aired heartbreaking scenes for mother-son duo Laurel and Arthur Thomas as she revealed she knew the truth about her accident.
Earlier on the ITV soap, Laurel suffered an injury at home, hitting her head against the stairs and ending up in hospital. While she claimed she couldn’t remember exactly what went down, she secretly knew that her son Arthur was responsible.
The two had got into a heated argument over Laurel’s lingering feelings for dead villain Ray Walters, with the showdown culminating in Arthur pushing his mum against the stairs.
After being discharged from the hospital, Laurel had having a hard time around Arthur. Her conflicting feelings were exacerbated by Gabby, who had sensed that Arthur was behind their mum’s injury and voiced her suspicions.

In tonight’s episode, Laurel’s composure crumbled after Gabby paid her a visit to apologise for accusing Arthur.
Arthur returned home while his sister was there, insisting he had nothing to do with his mum’s accident.
“I’m glad she finally admitted it,” Arthur said after Gabby left, but Laurel’s response shocked him.
“Alright, stop! You know what, I know it was you. I know you caused my accident,” Laurel said.
“I wish I didn’t, but I do,” she added.
Arthur admitted feeling guilty and being terrified he might’ve seriously injured his mum — or worse. When he asked her how long she’d known for, Laurel said she’d remembered as soon as she woke up, but had chosen to keep quiet as she was still processing the incident.
“I could barely admit it myself,” she said.
“You were always my kind, sweet little boy,” she added to Arthur, who replied: “I still am.”
“It breaks my heart but I’m not sure you are,” Laurel said.

Despite Arthur’s pleas, she arranged for him to stay over at Jai’s for a while.
“I would never mean to hurt you,” Arthur began, but Laurel stopped him, saying she couldn’t keep lying to herself about what happened.
“If you love me, then you’ll give me this time, okay?” Laurel told her son.
“I love you, Mum,” Arthur finally said before heading out.
“Yeah, I love you too,” Laurel replied coldly, but burst into tears after the door closed.
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
