A massive police response has been mobilised after protesters gathered in an Edinburgh community four days after an alleged ‘stabbing’ took place in Calder.

Footage from Friday night shows multiple police vans and officers deployed in the area as protesters gather in the street. A counter-protest was also expected.

Officers, including firearms officers, attended the Calder Gardens area following reports of a man with a bladed weapon on Monday, March 2 at around 8.25am.

Two people were injured during the disturbance and taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. A man suffered injuries consistent with being stabbed while a woman suffered a laceration to the head which was not believed to be caused by a bladed weapon.

Both individuals who were injured in the incident have since been discharged. Mustafa Kokoneh, 23, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday following the dramatic events on Cobbinshaw House South.

He is accused of eight separate charges including two counts of attempted murder and one of assault to severe injury and permanent impairment.

A poster advertising Friday night’s gathering was shared in the community by right wing activists and by anti-immigration group Unite the Clans.

Footage of the protest shows several police vehicles parked near Calder Road as demonstrators join the crowd. A large numbers of officers can be spotted forming a line at the edge of the protest.

Police Scotland confirmed earlier today that they would be available to ensure the safety of those in attendance.

Chief Superintendent David Robertson said: “We are aware of a planned gathering due to take place in the Calders area of Edinburgh on the evening of Friday, 6 March, 2026.“Should it be required, officers will be on hand to ensure the safety of those in attendance and mitigate disruption to the wider community.”
