Layla Rayner, 27, from Lowestoft, discovered her passion for architecture during a sixth-form history of modern art class.

She went on to earn a degree in architecture while working in practice.

Now design manager at Norwich-based Flagship Homes, she leads the team shaping the look and feel of new residential developments.

Miss Rayner said: “It’s not just providing a house type – it’s the elevation materials, the landscape, the boundary treatments, all working with the site layout design to create a successful environment.

“Everything comes together, creating a new community, and what our customers will call their home at the end of it.

“That really drives me.”

She works on projects across Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, and Cambridgeshire.

Women in Construction Week runs from March 1 to 7, highlighting the contributions of women in a sector facing a deepening skills crisis.

The UK government has set a target of delivering 1.5 million new homes during this parliament.
