A man tried to ‘bribe’ the bin men where he lived with biscuits, but some say the response from the workers was cruel. We have all had the issue of having too much rubbish to fit in our general waste or recycling bins every once in a while.
Whether it has just been Christmas, a birthday, or if you have just moved house, there are many reasons your bins could be overflowing. But many councils have very strict rules regarding bins, some of which include that if the bin lid is not completely closed that it will not be collected.
Some refuse workers are a little more relaxed and will still collect bins if the lid is ajar, or will even collect extra waste if it is left next to the bin. But this isn’t always the case, with some workers sticking to the rules.
One man, who posted on Reddit‘s R/CasualUK community, decided to take his chances by filling his general waste bin, and recycling bin with general waste and leaving the workers a note.
The note was left alongside two cans of monster and a packet of Foxes Choc Chunk Cookies. The note read: “Drinks + snacks for you! People could you take both bins? Both are general waste (promise).”
The user said: “If you don’t ask you don’t get right? Put on the bins this evening for tomorrow morning – might set an alarm to watch the story unfold! Have to show appreciation.”
The post received thousands of upvotes and hundreds of comments ahead of the long-awaited update several hours later.
The poster admitted that he watched the binmen read his note before making their decision.
The poster said: “They didn’t take the second bin not the snacks. Watched from the window – definitely read the note/”
Hundreds of people once again commented to praise the man for trying to bribe the bin men, while some said they “knew” what would happen.
One person said: “As I suspected, the bin men have total integrity and can’t be bribed.”
A second said: “Mine haven’t taken my bin for over a month. It’s at the edge of my property with the lid down. I’ve reported it twice. I was considering snacks, but after this post I’m completely lost. What do these people want?”
A third added: “They saw your previous post and decided to play hard ball. Where there’s snacks, there’s more snacks. They’ll wait.”
A fourth said: “You took your shot, fair play. I like these story posts, it’s like new age Eastenders.”
