Her mother was a Wimbledon player, while her grandfather was a member of Wimbledon in 1877.

Alongside her distinguished tennis career, which includes winning the ladies’ doubles at the Millennium Vets tournament at Wimbledon in her age group, Shirley also has an adventurous streak.

Her explorations range from Nepal and Southern India to Bangladesh and South America.

Additionally, she has given lectures on 15 cruise ships, including the QE2.

Tickets are priced at £10 each, with all profits going to Bright Ideas For Tennis.

Shirley, who is now 93, still enjoys playing tennis for fun.
