Karolina Muchova progressed to the third-round at Indian Wells after being Anna Bondar in straight sets. She went an early break down, but did not lose her serve after that, winning 7-5 6-2 after one hour and 47 minutes. This was the Czech’s first match since winning the title in Doha, and she has now won her last seven matches.
She goes up against Antonia Ruzic next. The Croatian continued her strong run of form with a surprise win over Qinwen Zheng. The 2024 Olympic champion threatened at times but put in a largely subdued display, with Ruzic winning 6-4 7-5 after one hour and 54 minutes. Ruzic reached the last eight in Dubai last month.
They played each other for the first time last year, with Muchova winning 7-5 7-5 at the Canadian Open. It’s difficult to look past the Czech player after her brilliant start to the year, but Ruzic should be able to test her at times.
