Eve Myles and David Morrissey’s crime thriller Gone has just landed and already a twisty mystery is unfurling. The six-part psychological drama centres around the disappearance of the upstanding and extremely uptight headmaster Michael Polly’s wife. Enter detective Annie Cassidy (Myles) who instantly suspects foul play and it isn’t long until Michael finds himself in her crosshairs.
Is he the controlling husband responsible for his wife Sarah’s unexplained disappearance? Or is detective Cassidy barking up the wrong tree? That however, is not the only mystery afoot in the creator George Kay’s (The Long Shadow) brand-new series.
Walking the halls of the prestigious private school that Michael helms is the deputy head Rory Bowman. Initially very unassuming, he may even have gone under the radar in episode one were it not for the pushy, almost insistent way he attempts to curry favour with headmaster Polly. “Well done Mike,” he tells the back of Michael’s head as Michael exits the room after announcing to the staff that Sarah is missing. (And don’t think we didn’t catch the personalisation of his name. As if someone that stiff could be a ‘Mike’).

His sentiments went ignored but there was something in the lingering look Rory gave him that suggested there was more to his words than well wishes. Either way it gave viewers a chance to really take in the uncomfortably brown-nosing character, long enough to make us curious about more than his intentions, like where on earth we’ve seen that face before.
Well, if you can’t put a finger on it, there’s no need. Here’s where you’ve seen Gone’s Rory Bowman before.

Who is Gone’s Rory Bowman and where have I seen him before?
If the thought of bees came swarming to your head upon seeing Rory’s face don’t worry, you’re not having some kind of episode. Rory Bowman, real name Rupert Evans, is in fact Bridgerton’s Edmund Bridgerton.
Though his character in the swoony period drama holds great presence in the show, it’s completely understandable if you found him hard to place given that Edmund is dead in the series and only appears during flashback episodes. (Though you may catch glimpses of him in a portrait here and there).

He does however live on in the memory of his wife and children who honour him often through conversations and decisions made.
If you’re thinking, “That’s not it,’ I’m sure I’ve seen him somewhere else before”, then you may be remembering Evans from his role in the reboot of the iconic 90s series Charmed, which originally starred Shannen Doherty, Holly-Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano and Rose McGowan.

CW
In the 2018 reboot Evans played the Leo Wyatt (Brian Krause) equivalent Harry Greenwood, Whitelighter to the witchy sisters who also falls in love with one of the Charmed Ones, Macy Vaughn (Madeleine Mantock).
Evans’ catalog also, more recently includes the mini series Truth and Treason and a stint in Lynley.
Gone debuts on Sunday 8 March at 9pm with the second episode airing on Monday 9 March. The series will air weekly on Sundays and Mondays. All episodes are available to watch now on ITVX.
