Most days, I wake up and think that the internet was a fucking mistake, even though its existence pays my bills. But then there are some days where I see something so cool, I give the interwebs a bit of a reprieve — and today was one of those days. You see, a reader of ours named Marco Winther shared a super cool project he did involving a guitar, a town square, the citizens of Hilleroed, Denmark, and Metallica‘s iconic track “Master of Puppets”.
The project, which Winther says he wants to call the “My Town Plays” series, sees 55 different people of varying musical capabilities playing a single note at a time on the guitar. Each instance was recorded on All eight and a half minutes of the track is represented in this video. That means more than 2,100 individual notes were recorded, edited together, and placed in the correct order. The whole thing was filmed over the course of a single week this past August, resulting in approximately 15 hours of footage and direct-in guitar tracks.
Once completed, Winther said he premiered the video to a buncha town residents and Metallica fans on the Master of Puppets album’s 40th anniversary back on March 3.
Speaking of the video, Winther said he wants to continue making this video with other kick ass songs.
So what other songs would you like to see Winther and his project tackle next? My vote’s on a Tool song…
