Vanessa Dalby and Simon Thomas of The Angove Guest House on the Esplanade are appearing as contestants on Channel 4’s Four in a Bed next week.

The show pits B&B owners from across the country against each other.

They throw open their doors and take turns to stay with each other, as they compete to be crowned best hosts.

Vanessa said: “We have been running the Angove for the last four and a half years and got it just after the restrictions were lifted after lockdown.

“We always said we wouldn’t do it, but we went away somewhere and stayed at a guest house who were going to be on the show. We watched them come third, asked them if it’s worth it and they said yes from a fun and business sense.

“All the guest houses in Weymouth get contacted all the time, like twice a year, so we thought we would try it out when we had the chance.”

She added: “It’s been quite difficult keeping it secret. Our activity involved walking along the beach and so we had to say then (when people saw us).

“Everyone wants to know the results. It was great fun to film, and longer days than anticipated.

“We’re honest. You have got to play the game, it is a competition. A lot of it is done in good humour.”

On what makes the Angove and the town special, Simon added: “We completely refurbished the place and put our own stamp on it when we took the place over in 2021 and we have just been really excited at the chance to be showing it off.

It’s us. We love Weymouth, especially in the summer, and what’s not to love. We wanted to big up Weymouth and I hope we have done just that as that was the goal.”

The results and the winning B&B will be revealed at the end of the week.

Four in a Bed will be screened at 5pm on Channel 4 across the week from Monday, March 16.
