Ipswich Town left it late to beat relegated Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough and move closer to the automatic promotion places.
Ivan Azon scored 12 minutes from time, before top scorer Jack Clarke wrapped up victory from the penalty spot with his 13th goal of the season three minutes later.
The win extended Ipswich’s unbeaten run to six games and moved the Tractor Boys up a place to third, within two points of Middlesbrough in second – and Kieran McKenna’s side have a game in hand.
Wednesday pushed them hard and threatened to record their first home point of 2026, before their resolve was broken.
Ipswich dominated possession and chances, and Pierce Charles saved shots from the bright Clarke and Anis Mehmeti.
The Northern Ireland goalkeeper also kept out an effort from outside the box from Dan Neil.
Wednesday are slowly improving under head coach Henrik Pedersen, and Sean Fusire saw a shot saved by keeper Christian Walton.
Wednesday’s on-loan Luton striker Jerry Yates had a couple of shots blocked, while Gabriel Otegbago hit an effort wide.
Azon replaced George Hirst on 66 minutes and the Spaniard should have scored when he flicked his shot wide when through one-on-one with Charles.
He made amends three minutes later, in the 78th minute, when he finished smartly into the bottom corner from Ben Johnson’s cross.
Wednesday were beaten, despite all their efforts, and Clarke made sure of the points nine minutes from time when Fusire fouled him in the box and he dispatched the spot-kick.
It was a satisfying end to a difficult week for Ipswich, after conceding a controversial 96th-minute penalty in their midweek draw at Stoke, and Leif Davis’ three-match ban for clashing with Leicester’s Caleb Okoli.
