Struggling with getting your children to respect you? You are certainly not alone. It’s no secret one of the hardest jobs of parenting is having your kids listen to you.
There are many key strategies to teach your children manners, but it’s one many mums and dads still find hard and no matter how confident you are with your parenting methods, it doesn’t always go your way. Now supernanny Jo Frost revealed the one little thing you could model at home – and it’s very simple. Speaking in a social media video, the TV personality began: “You respect your children. Full stop.”
She continued in the TikTok clip with her 31,800 followers: “You speak to them kindly, like you would want to be spoken to. You don’t swear at them, you walk with them without mocking them. You hear them out.
“You remain calm when they can’t. You uphold your boundaries. But you don’t play verbal ping pong like you’re their age in the playground. Full stop.
“Act the adult. Be the grown parent, stop getting in your own way needing to be right over everyone feeling heard and respected.”

Frost, who is best known for reality TV programme Supernanny UK, claimed it takes one method as she urged parents to be “present and communicate” in order to get the respect back.
She continued: “The reason many of you struggle personally is because you spent years demanding to be respected, while you gave none to your children.
“Respect is not demanded, it is earned from how you treat others, from how you uphold, how you are treated. Now go earn it.”
Since she shared her advice, the post racked up a lot of attention. One said: “I’ve watched you for years!
“Absolute icon of my childhood and you even helped me with my relationship with my mum over the years. Love you Jo, thank you for being there for both the parents AND the children.”
Another added: “I love you Supernanny.”
Previously, the childcare expert settled the debate on whether smartphones should be banned for kids.
It comes as earlier this year, the House of Lords backed a move to ban under-16s in the UK from social media platforms like Facebook, X, and Instagram, which would come through as an amendment to the government’s schools bill.
Sharing her thoughts, Frost said she would “absolutely” back a ban on social media for children under 16, as she said it causes “too much harm” that keeps her “up at night” worrying about future generations.
