Cameron Green has sent a statement to Australia’s Test selectors with a century for Western Australia in their Sheffield Shield clash with New South Wales at Sydney’s Cricket Central.

In his first red ball outing since the Sydney Test against England, Green reached stumps on day two unbeaten on 130.

Batting at No.4, the 26-year-old needed 167 deliveries to reach his hundred, cracking six fours and five sixes so far.

Green raced through the 90s courtesy of smashing a big six off the bowling of left arm spinner Joel Davies before eventually bringing up his milestone with a cut shot for a single to bring up his 15th first class ton shortly after tea.

WA are 7/302 in reply to NSW’s first innings total of 232 with spinner Corey Rocchiccioli (21*) at the crease with Green.

Green’s spot in Australia’s Test side has been a point of conjecture after an underwhelming Ashes series in which he tallied 171 runs at 24.42, while fellow all-rounder Beau Webster scored a half-century at the SCG.

Australia’s next long form assignment is a two-Test series against Bangladesh in Darwin and Mackay in August.

Meanwhile, the first class career of Usman Khawaja is over after Queensland fell out of Sheffield Shield title contention.

Queensland, after dismissing Tasmania for 198, were all out for 178 at Bellerive Hobart on Sunday.

While it was not far shy of the Tigers’ first-innings score, it was short of what the Bulls needed to surge ahead of South Australia on bonus points.

Khawaja was absent for the last game of the regular season but would have been available for the final against Victoria later this month had the Bulls qualified.

The veteran run-scorer missed this match for the birth of his child but had vowed to finish the season with Queensland after his Test retirement in January.

Now, Khawaja will miss out on a similar send-off after the Bulls failed to manufacture a must-win scenario for South Australia at Junction Oval.

The result pours further pressure on Queensland coach Johan Botha, who has not delivered the expected success during his tenure.

Tasmania reached 5/133 in their second innings at stumps with Test opener Jake Weatherald making 62 from 57 balls.

South Australia set Victoria 305 early on day two and captured the important early wicket of Sam Harper (5).

But the Vics fought back through Campbell Kellaway (66) and Peter Handscomb (48), only for them both to be undone by sharp wicketkeeping from Alex Carey.

When Victoria was two down, Queensland needed to reach 203 to force the result, but SA took another and the Bulls lost their 10th wicket in a matter of seconds.

The Vics are 5-266 at stumps, with rising star Oliver Peake (44*) and captain Will Sutherland (42*) at the crease.

Much remains at stake for the Vics, particularly Sam Elliott and Mitch Perry, who are locked in a bowl-off for a spot in the final XI.

The Vics are also chasing a record eight-win Shield season which has only been achieved once before.
