In Greater Manchester, petrol car owners are currently being charged 0.6p less than the national average of 141.1p. And diesel car drivers in Greater Manchester are paying 0.1p less than the national average.

The cheapest place in Greater Manchester to fill up your car with petrol is at a Morrisons garage in Salford. According to the latest data supplied by retailers, a driver in an average family car could save up to £8 by filling up at this forecourt, compared to the most expensive petrol station.

The Morrisons garage at Swinton Hall Road, Salford is charging motorists 135.9p per litre, which means it would cost £75 to fill up an average 55 litre tank. This is based on a feed of live petrol prices which was set up by the government’s Competition and Markets Authority last September.
The average price for a litre of petrol across the Greater Manchester region this week is 137.9p.

The most expensive filling station in Greater Manchester is a ASDA station at Audley Avenue, Trafford. The cost of standard petrol at this station is 149.9p, meaning it would cost a total of £82 to fill up an average family car at this forecourt.
For the owners of diesel cars, the cheapest place to fill up is the Morrisons garage at Bolton. The cost of a litre of standard diesel at this forecourt was 154.9p, according to prices supplied by retailers.

The cheapest place to buy petrol in the country is at a BP garage in Scottish Borders where a litre of standard petrol is 131.9p. The most expensive petrol station in the country is a ASDA garage in South Lanarkshire where motorists are charged 176.9p a litre.
The prices quoted are for standard grade petrol (E10) and for standard grade diesel (B7). The figures are supplied by the major retailers under a voluntary scheme launched by the Competition and Markets Authority to ensure motorists are given a fair deal at the petrol pumps.
Most of the major petrol retailers have signed up to the scheme and the petrol stations supplying up-to-date information account for around 60 per cent of the fuel sold in the UK. The price of fuel is often cheaper at Costco outlets, but their service is only available to members.
