The New Zealand star has been a revelation in Lanarkshire with interest in the winger ramping up

Elijah Just of Motherwell

Rangers are keeping tabs on Motherwell star Elijah Just as they weigh up a potential summer swoop.

The New Zealand ace has emerged as a breakout star for Fir Park boss Jens Berthel Askou’s Premiership shocktroops this year.

And with Celtic rumoured to be considering a move for the talented 25-year-old playmaker, Record Sport can now reveal Gers chiefs are also monitoring Just’s development.

Ibrox bosses have been hugely impressed by the team Askou has put together this term and view Just as the brightest gem in the Steelmen’s squad, with Tawanda Maswanhise and Elliot Watt also highly rated.

New Light Blues owner Andrew Cavenagh and his partners at the San Francisco 49ers have already sanctioned a transfer spend of more than £50million since taking over last year and are ready to push the boat out again for gaffer Danny Rohl ahead of next season.

And Just might end up being on their wish list if he maintains his dazzling form through to the end of the campaign.

A leading contender for the Premiership’s player of the year prizes, Just – who has had stints playing in Denmark and Austria before being lured to Lanarkshire by Askou – netted his seventh goal of the season in Well’s 3-1 defeat to suitors Celtic on Saturday. He’s also laid on six assists in 27 appearances so far.

Gers have been relying on Mikey Moore for creative spark this season but with the on-loan Spurs kid due to return to his Premier League parent club at the end of the season, there is a void to be filled.

Fellow attacking midfielders Thelo Assgaard and Andres Skov Olson – who Gers have an option to sign permanently from Wolfsburg for £8million – also look uncertain after a string of underwhelming displays.
