The incident occurred at around 6.50pm yesterday (Wednesday) on Keighley Road in Illingworth at the junction of Cobblestones Drive.

Three vehicles were involved – a Ford Fiesta, a BMW and a Renault Clio which was stationary and unoccupied at the time of the collision.

Three young men die in crash

Two men, aged 22, and another, aged 21, in the Fiesta were pronounced dead at the scene.

Another occupant in the vehicle, a 21-year-old man was rushed to hospital with life threatening injuries.

The occupants of the BMW a man aged 37, and two women, aged 18 and 32, all from Halifax were arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remain in police custody this morning.

The road remains closed this morning whilst enquiries are carried out.

One local resident said: “It’s incredibly sad news. A very tragic incident ident indeed.

“My thoughts are with the loved ones of the lads who’ve died. It’s awful.”

A police officer at the scene says it is not yet known how long the road will remain closed.

Detective Sergeant Paul Lightowler, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the people who died.

“Specially trained officers will be supporting the families involved.

“This is a tragic incident and extensive enquiries are ongoing at the scene this morning.  

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was travelling in the area yesterday evening who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.  

“We are also keen to see any dash-cam footage of the vehicles prior to the collision.”
