Ross Barkley has been linked with Coventry City
Coventry City have been linked with a move for Aston Villa midfielder Ross Barkley.
Website SportsBoom claims Barkley ‘could find a new home’ with the Sky Blues if they secure promotion to the Premier League.
Frank Lampard’s side could step closer to that with another three points away to Swansea on Saturday evening – and with every win they secure, so too the prospect of having to fortify their squad for a top flight campaign looms.
The report claims Aston Villa would be ‘open to offers’ for a player who has a year left on his contract – having returned to Villa Park in the summer of 2024.
Barkley has also played for Everton, Chelsea, was on loan at Villa for the 2021/21 campaign, Nice and Luton Town.

Indeed Lampard was Barkley’s boss at Stamford Bridge with the midfielder playing 31 games in the 2019/20 campaign, including off the bench in the FA Cup final loss to Arsenal – a few months later he was sent out on loan to Villa.
Since working with Unai Emery, Barkley has made 45 appearances, 15 this season but only one Premier League start.
SportsBoom claim Wrexham could also be keen if they win promotion and that Sheffield United considered making a January move for the 32-year-old.
As things stand City have Matt Grimes and Frank Onyeka pulling the strings behind the attackers, with an obligation to make the Brentford man’s loan permanent if they are promoted.
Victor Torp, Josh Eccles and Jamie Allen are also options in the middle of the park.
