Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth solo Marvel Cinematic Universe outing for the wall-crawler, is still months away from release, but it has already set a major record.

If you’re weren’t already aware, the upcoming superhero filmed dropped its first trailer the other day. The likelihood is you are well aware of that, as the trailer was viewed a whopping 718.6 million times in 24 hours.

That beat the previous record for a film trailer (Deadpool & Wolverine with 365 million views in 24 hours) and overall trailer (Grand Theft Auto 6 with 475 million views in 24 hours).

The trailer is pretty packed, featuring a shout-out to Spidey’s first-ever comic book cover, the returns of Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Michael Mando as Scorpion, and Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, and what looks like an adaptation of the Man-Spider storyline.

Fans also seems to think that one mysterious hooded figure shown from behind, raising their hands, is Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, although it hasn’t been confirmed if she’s really playing the all-powerful psychic character or not.

And there’s a brief moment that features a young woman with white strikes in her hair, which may or may not be fellow X-Men member Rogue.

While there’s a lot for Spidey to deal with in this film, the trailer makes it look like the thing he wants most of all is to get back with MJ – played by Tom Holland’s real-life wife Zendaya – after the spell cast in No Way Home caused everyone to forget who he is.

Interestingly, Brand New Day was set to release just one a week after Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which also stars Holland and Zendaya, but now it is coming out two weeks after.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is released in cinemas on 31 July.
