What are the BCCI exams that need to be cleared to become a pitch curator?

In India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) remains the ultimate gatekeeper of the profession.

The board often conducts certification courses across various locations in India. They are often held for seven to 10 days and have a course fee of around INR 5000 to 10,000.

The Level 1 certification assessment is split into a theoretical written paper, worth 70 per cent of the grade, and a practical demonstration comprising the remaining 30 per cent.

To pass, a candidate must secure at least 60 per cent. They will be tested on irrigation, grass-cutting heights, and the art of preparing a sporting wicket that balances the needs of both batsmen and bowlers.

What is the approximate salary of a head pitch curator?

A certified professional under the BCCI banner can expect a monthly salary ranging from ₹35,000 to ₹70,000, supplemented by generous match-day allowances.

Meanwhile, the fee during an IPL season goes in lakhs.  It has been reported that head curators can command between INR 8 lakh and INR 15 lakh per season.

Meanwhile, international matches are additional income streams with each game ensuring a payout of around INR 15,000-25,000. The pay goes down to 8,000-15,000 for a domestic match.
