Pop princess Pixie Lott opens up about new music, starring in new thriller Changing Faces, parenting chaos and keeping the spark alive in her marriage
Singer Pixie gives us a glimpse of her hectic life and what keeps her going
Pixie Lott’s life already looked hectic, but it got a lot busier when she became a mum-of-two last October, delivering a little brother for two-year-old Bertie.
Life with baby “Kio” (the couple haven’t yet released their second son’s name) has been “non stop” ever since for the pop star, 35, and her husband, model Oliver Cheshire, 37, she tells Notebook.
“I’ve absolutely loved having a newborn again, and they change so quickly. Like even now, before I spoke to you, he’s been learning how to roll! He’s so cute.

“He already had a nickname before he came, so that’s what we call him now, Kio! I see Bertie laughing with him now, and bringing him little toys.
“I’ve got a little video of the night before he was born where we’re like, ‘This is our last night in the world, before it changes again and there’s four of us.’ I remember Bertie coming to the hospital and he was so excited, touching him… but I wonder if he really grasped it.”
Despite the parenting chaos, the Mama Do singer has already been back performing — but things are a bit different backstage now.
“I did a show at The London Palladium at Christmas, and just before going on stage I was getting my make-up done and feeding the baby simultaneously — who had reflux and was throwing up everywhere, while Bertie’s running around pulling everything down,” she laughs.
“And then I’m on stage in my lovely dress, singing, dancing — nobody has any idea of the absolute chaos going on behind the scenes!”
The couple, who tied the knot in 2022, also managed to sneak in a recent date night at London Fashion Week. Pixie says they aren’t fazed by the pressures of juggling their busy jobs with two young children.
“Our schedules are pretty irregular. We can both get jobs at the very last minute, but that’s OK, we both understand that. It keeps things exciting as well – like, anything could happen any given week. We’re good at just going with the flow and not having too much routine.

“Of course, the children become the main priority. Before, you’re like, ‘I can go out with my mates, we can watch a full movie for two hours’ — well that’s not going to happen any more!
“I love that family life, that loyal love and constant of someone always being there has really helped me in the craziness of this business. It makes me feel safe.”
Is it true that Pixie wooed Oliver with a Nando’s loyalty card and she was two hours late to their first date? She nods, laughing. “I was coming back from a gig and my tour manager dropped me off at Marble Arch, where we were meeting. I was like, “God, it’s so late…” But Ollie was still there, waiting. We ended up having a lovely time.”
The Bromley-born star is also putting the final touches to some new music, recorded in Nashville last year (with her mum and Bertie in tow). While they’re not strictly country songs, Pixie says she “definitely leaned into the storytelling tradition that country songs are famous for”.
She adds, “Those tracks are coming out soon, which I’m excited about. I love writing and not waiting a massive long time to put music out into the world.”
One track she’s teased on socials is called Good Wife. Is that about Pixie, then? “It’s me trying to be,” she smiles. “It’s actually about the juggle — of being a good wife, mother, sister, friend — trying to do it all.”
But does she really think women can ‘do it all’? “I do. But there’s no perfect recipe for what “all” looks like. It doesn’t mean it’s going to be neat or perfect, scrap that. But why not give it a go?”

As well as a successful music career, Pixie has dabbled in acting — and her latest project, a dark, time-twisting thriller called Past Life , is currently in cinemas.
In it, she plays Claira, the pregnant wife of traumatised war reporter Jason. He ends up being hypnotised, which unlocks the key to a terrifying past and bears witness to shocking unsolved murders.
Filmed almost a year ago, it was an unusual experience as Pixie was pregnant at the time but nobody knew (she only found out around her audition) — and she had to wear a prosthetic bump.
“It was… strange! But I could really draw on the real experience of being pregnant. But yes, I was hugging my bump that wasn’t real, but there was a real baby underneath it!”
After a smooth pregnancy with Bertie, she also presumed her second would be the same, but on set Pixie battled severe nausea and often felt “really ill”. “I really had to try and hold it all together. I did actually tell Nye [her co-star Aneurin Barnard], who plays Jason in the film, but that was it!”
The shoot was in Manchester, with Pixie’s mum staying there in a hotel with Bertie. “We’d film at all different times, then I’d come back to the hotel and be mum, till I was called on set again.”
As for her part in Past Life , Pixie was drawn not only to the “clever” script, but her character being so family-focused. “She’s so worried about her partner. She’s very loyal, even through all the craziness.”

Without giving away any spoilers, there are some dark and intense scenes in the film — but the usually chatty and positive Pixie had her own techniques to wind down after them, such as “going off to a quiet space or listening to something that gets me in another zone”.
She would like to do more acting in future, but what about TV? We’ve seen Pixie on Strictly, as a coach on The Voice Kids (“Oh my God I loved that show so much!”) — could we see her in the jungle, for instance?
“Mmm, no… I think I’m more interested in dramas and scripted things. Anything where music and art is at the helm is what I feel most excited about.”
Somehow, Pixie also finds time to be an ambassador for the King’s Trust, the charity founded by King Charles in 1976 to help vulnerable young people in need get their lives on track.
She says, “I’ve been an ambassador for 16 or 17 years now, so I’ve personally met a lot of the young people that they’ve helped. They’ve completely turned someone’s life around that’s got off on the wrong foot.”
And what is our monarch like in the flesh? “Oh, whenever I’ve met King Charles, he’s always been very charming — and passionate about the charity,” says Pixie. It’s the charity’s 50th anniversary this year — will Pixie be involved in the celebrations? “Oh, I’m not sure yet… if they ask me, I’m there!”
