Despite leading in the second-half, Huddersfield Giants fell to a fifth Super League defeat leaving coach Luke Robinson fielding questions on his future.

Robinson is in his second full season at the Giants as head coach after taking over from Ian Watson in the 2024 season, however, his spell has been characterised largely by injury woes with Huddersfield hamstrung last year and thus far this year. Ultimately though, the lack of results has led to understandable outside noise and pressure.

After watching his side squander a second-half lead and ship late points to lose 26-14 to Bradford Bulls, Robinson was asked about his own future at the club with the head coach giving a realist answer to BBC Sport West Yorkshire.

“I know how professional sport works and how rugby league works. There is always that pressure on you as a coach,” he admitted.

“Whether you’ve got injuries or a depleted squad, sometimes that’s not enough. Fingers crossed it (my time) isn’t (up) because I feel like I can still do a really good job.

“I feel like this team, once we get everyone back, can do a really good job but that’s out of my hands.”

Luke Robinson addresses Huddersfield Giants’ future

Questions of Robinson’s future come alongside other outside noise about the merits of Huddersfield Giants in Super League, a discussion that was heightened last week after the club’s poor Challenge Cup attendance.

On that, Robinson said: “I think people see and hear it, do they take any notice? Probably not, I never have done.

“This isn’t anything new. This has something that has been around for a while. When you’re winning games, they quieten a little bit more.”

As a follow-up to how he felt about his own future, Robinson was also asked if he believed he had the support of the higher-ups at the club.

“I can’t tell you what they think or what’s on their minds,” the 41-year-old said.

“Wherever I can, I’ll put my all into this job and I think everyone can see the situation we’ve been in this year. You’d have to be pretty daft really to not have a bit of an understanding of where we are and why we are in this position.

“But yeah, it’s out of my hands.”
