Luke Menzies, Danny Harris and Carl Morgan will be raising funds for Mental Health United

A trio of community champions from Thanet are preparing to take on an endurance challenge in support of mental health.

Luke Menzies, Danny Harris and Carl Morgan, who founded Mental Health United Thanet in 2024, will walk 100 miles from Brighton to Ramsgate over four days, starting on May 23 and finishing on May 26.

The club was created to help people who have struggles with mental health or addiction and caters for men, women and children of all ages and abilities to join in for a friendly kick about and to have a healthy, non-judgemental outlet to talk and have fun.

The ambitious effort comes after a remarkable year for the group, which has gone from strength to strength in bringing people together through sport and conversation. Their weekly football sessions, held at Margate Football Club every Friday from 8pm to 9pm and open to all ages and abilities, have seen growing participation — with one recent session attracting an impressive 51 attendees.

Building on that success, the organisation has also launched monthly “Walk and Talk” sessions, held on the last Sunday of each month from Westbay Café. The initiative aims to provide a relaxed and supportive environment where people can connect, share experiences and improve their mental wellbeing.

Their impact has already been recognised at a local level, with the group winning two awards at the Thanet Community Champions 2026.

Now, the three organisers are pushing themselves even further with the 100-mile route, hoping to raise both awareness and funds to continue expanding their work across the community.

Speaking ahead of the challenge, the team said they hope their journey will inspire others to get involved, whether by attending sessions or supporting the cause.

Residents are being encouraged to show their support by donating, with all funds going towards sustaining and growing Mental Health United Thanet’s initiatives.
