The Other Bennet Sister increasing hype around Austen and Bath

A new period drama based on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is increasing people’s interest in the author, a tour guide has said.

The Other Bennet Sister, a BBC drama which was partly filmed in Bristol, is re-imagining Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice by focusing on Mary Bennet.

Theresa McDermott, founder of Strictly Jane Austen Tours in Bath, said shows like this one “add to the interest in Jane Austen and experiences in Bath”.

She added: “I think it’s great because it highlights and gives space to other characters from Jane Austen’s books. Our customers really have great discussions around how would this character behave or respond if they had voice to do so?”
