White Horse Bakery in Holme-next-the-Sea has been named one of the 50 best bakeries in the country for 2026 by The Good Food Guide in partnership with Square.

The site only opened less than a year ago and has quickly gained national acclaim.

“My team and I are absolutely over the moon to receive this amazing recognition,” Leigh Gentry, head baker, said.

“The life of a baker starts at the crack of dawn when my small team and I work hard preparing small batch handcrafted artisan breads, viennoiserie and seasonal bakes ready for our 8am bakery opening each day.

“We’re proud to create a fun and welcoming place to work and visit.

“There’s always a warm Norfolk welcome in the bakery barn where customers can enjoy breakfast, proper coffee or a lunchtime snack while choosing delicious bakes to take home.

“Karl, George and I truly love what we do and we’re incredibly proud when that passion is reflected in the smiles of our customers.”

The team makes handmade, small-batch, organic sourdough products every day, with loaves flying off the shelves.

“Making bread the traditional way is our speciality,” Mr Gentry added.

“It’s a slow process, but it produces amazing results.

“Using the best local ingredients, including heritage wheats, helps bring out the taste, flavour and texture in everything we bake.

“Great bread takes time, but it’s worth it.”

The Good Food Guide releases its list annually and aims to spotlight bakers who are “bringing new and exciting breads and pastries to the market that are rich in flavour, provenance and artisan craft”.

White Horse Bakery adjoins the White Horse Pub and both sites are run by the Anglian County Inns group.
