Kobbie Mainoo is nearing an agreement to sign a new contract and details are beginning to emerge.

A rollercoaster season for Kobbie Mainoo is at a high point after his recall to the England squad. He is also closer to tying his long-term future to Manchester United.

Last week The Athletic reported that an agreement with Mainoo and his representatives was ‘close’.

It represented a major breakthrough after two years of negotiations without any progress.

Kobbie Mainoo is set to sign a five-year contract with Manchester United, according to a fresh report via The Mail.

It is claimed that only the ‘fine details’ are left to be completed.

This would take Mainoo up until the 2031 season at Manchester United.

His current deal at the club expires in 2027, although there is an option to extend to 2028. United could add a trigger option in his new deal that would enable the club to extend his contract from 2031 to 2032.

Mainoo’s new deal will extend his contract beyond any current player at the club.

Amad, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Diego Leon are all contract to 2030, with a further option to 2031.

Mainoo’s new deal will secure his future, after a difficult spell in 2025 where it looked like United were at risk of losing him.

Fabrizio Romano also reports that Mainoo’s contract will be for five years, with the deal a ‘priority’ for United.

We asked Manchester United fans on TalkingPoints about Kobbie Mainoo’s future, to tap into the level of concern, with a deal so far unsigned.

76 per cent of fans responded to say they are ‘not worried, a deal will be done soon’, with the remaining 24 per cent expressing fear the club may lose Mainoo.

These fears can soon be allayed, with a new contract for Mainoo imminent. It is the first step in rebuilding the midfield, with new signings expected this summer.
