Scotland international Jonny Gray has left Bordeaux-Bègles with immediate effect to join Top 14 strugglers Perpignan until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old requested the move himself, Bordeaux confirmed in a statement, bringing his time at the European champions to an abrupt end ahead of his contract expiring this summer.

Perpignan act amid injury crisis

Perpignan have moved swiftly to bring in reinforcements as injuries continue to pile up in both the forwards and backs.

Gray’s arrival is seen as a major boost to their pack, with the club currently battling near the bottom of the Top 14 table and desperately needing experience in the second row.

Hugo Reus departs in swap deal

In a corresponding move, Hugo Reus has been released despite only joining Perpignan in December on a short-term deal.

The 22-year-old, who had already agreed to join Bordeaux this summer, will now make that move immediately as a medical joker.

Reus is expected to provide cover in the backline, with injuries mounting for Bordeaux.

Injury blows mounting

Ireland international Joey Carbery is sidelined with an ACL injury suffered in February, while centre Nicolas Depoortèrehas undergone shoulder surgery following his Six Nations involvement.

Perpignan are also struggling with injuries in the pack, including Scotland flanker Jamie Ritchie, who fractured his leg during the Six Nations clash against England.
