Day-trippers and residents taking in the views around Walton’s Naze Tower were shocked to see the boars walking near the Tower Cafe.

According to residents, the boars were peaceful and minded their own business before the police were called to capture them.

Arlo Woodland, who was enjoying the Naze at the time, said “The boar didn’t bother us – we were on a dog walk and it just casually walked past us.

“It roamed around the Naze Tower grounds for a while.

“A police car on blue lights came to the scene and we believed there was a police helicopter out as well.”

Susanne Bakula, who was visiting Walton for the first time, said: “The boars were friendly and minding their own business.

“It was a very strange sight to see – very unexpected!

“I believed they escaped from the farm nearby but it was not long before the police arrived to return them home again.”

Police officers were called to the scene and managed to retrieve the animals.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: “We were alerted to reports of four boars having left a field and walking close to a café near to the Naze Tower in Walton shortly before 1pm on Saturday.

“Officers quickly located the animals and worked with the landowner to make sure they were safely returned to their field.

“Thankfully, no damage was caused by the animals and no injuries were caused to members of the public.”
