Stan Wawrinka has joined the star-studded field at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. The clay-court ATP 500 on Thursday confirmed that the former No. 3 player in the PIF ATP Rankings has accepted a wild card for the 2026 edition, which takes place from 13-19 April.
A 16-time tour-level titlist competing in his final season on the ATP Tour, the 40-year-old Wawrinka holds a 12-6 record in Barcelona, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. He reached the semi-finals on consecutive appearances in 2006 and 2008. In 2025, Wawrinka returned to compete at Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899 after a 16-year absence.
Wawrinka was also recently confirmed as a wild card for the Gonet Geneva Open, which takes place from 17-23 May. The Swiss lifted the most recent of his ATP Tour trophies at the clay ATP 250 in his homeland in 2017.

Wawrinka joins World No. 1, home favourite and two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz in the Barcelona field. Top 10 stars Lorenzo Musetti, Alex de Minaur and Felix Auger-Aliassime will also compete in Catalonia, as will Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev, Jack Draper and Arthur Fils.
Swiss star Wawrinka has already forged plenty of memorable moments since announcing that he would bring his illustrious career to a close in 2026. The three-time Grand Slam champion is 6-8 for the year at Tour-level, a tally which includes a third-round run at January’s Australian Open. On 16 February, Wawrinka returned to the Top 100 for the first time since July 2024.
