Alan Penny brought his time as captain of Kidderminster Golf Club to an end in style by hitting the hole-in-one of his 40-year golf career.
According to the club’s resident professional Patrick Smith, Alan’s incredible feat makes him the first Kidderminster Golf Club captain to hit a hole-in-one in ‘at least’ 35 years.
“In a lovely twist of fate, I managed to achieve my first ever hole‑in‑one after 40 years of playing,” Alan said.
“Our club professional believes I may be the only serving Captain at the club in at least 35 years to do so, which made the day even more memorable.”
During his year as captain, which concluded on Monday, March 23, Alan, with the support of his wife Tricia and his fellow Kidderminster Golf Club members, led a number of fundraising events in aid of gynaecological cancers charity, The Eve Appeal.
This charity is a cause close to Alan’s heart after his daughter Sophie was rushed to the hospital in June 2022 and diagnosed with Mucinous Ovarian Cancer, a rare form of the disease, at the age of just 25.
Thankfully, due to successful surgery, she was able to make a full recovery.
Over the past 12 months, Alan helped raise £14,559 for the charity.
“It’s a cause I feel strongly about, and I wanted to use my year to bring people together while raising funds for the vital work they do.
“With the support of my wife, Tricia, and the enthusiasm of our members and friends, we organised a full programme of events throughout the year.
“These included race nights, raffles, a Family Fun Day, a Motown evening, a New Year’s Eve party, a quiz night, a sponsored walk, and a charity golf day. Alongside our regular club draw, these activities helped us raise a total of £14,559.42.
“I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved together and grateful for the generosity and spirit shown by the club community.”
