Warrington Wolves have confirmed that one of their players has joined a rival Super League club on a month-long loan deal.

Winger Jake Thewlis has been allowed to leave the Wolves with Warrington sending the youngster out on a season-long loan to fellow Super League side Castleford Tigers.

In 2026, Thewlis has only played once so far with the 20-year-old featuring in the Challenge Cup against Goole Vikings, when he scored two tries.

He featured more prominently in 2025 as he made a total of 18 appearances and scored an impressive 14 tries but with off-season recruit Josh Smith impressing so far and Matty Ashton now fit again, Thewlis has found game time hard to come by.

A loan switch to Castleford could see him debut for the Tigers this weekend as Semi Valemei will miss out after failing a head injury assessment in the win over Bradford Bulls, whilst there could also be opportunities at full-back in the long run at the OneBore Stadium.

News of the move was announced by Castleford Tigers with the club announcing the one-month deal via their social media.

An accompanying statement saw Thewlis speak out on the opportunity, stating: “I’m really grateful to the club for bringing me in and giving me the opportunity to come, develop and get some game time.

“I’m excited to get out there with the team and show what I can contribute to group, whilst having the opportunity to develop my game with Super League game time.”

Director of Rugby, Chris Chester, added: “We are delighted to get Jake into Castleford Tigers. We are down on troops in the outside backs and being able to bring someone in of the quality of Jake is huge for us.”

Warrington Wolves also shared the news with Wire confirming that a recall option is in place.
