Filming has begun on The Last of Us season three, with photos giving us a look at Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby and Kyriana Kratter’s Lev on set.
The Last of Us season three will move its focus from Bella Ramsey’s Ellie, and instead tell Abby’s side of the story in Seattle. It will also introduce a number of new characters for the show, such as Abby’s father Jerry (played by Patrick Wilson), Michelle Mao’s Yara and Kyriana Kratter’s Lev. While I won’t go into detail, those who have played The Last of Us Part 2 will know the significance of these characters.

Which brings us to those set photos, which show Lev and Abby making their way across the various ruined buildings of The Last of Us Part 2’s Seattle. Abby can be seen in what appears to be the same blue jacket she wore for season two’s finale.
Meanwhile, Kratter has shaved her head for the part of Lev. Kratter can be seen in the Seraphites’ more neutral-colored garb, and also has a bow and arrows on their person.
We don’t yet have a release date for The Last of Us’ third season beyond 2027. However, the upcoming season is also suspected to be the show’s last.

Last year, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann announced he was stepping back from the series after The Last of Us season two, in order to focus on the studio’s gaming output, which includes Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Druckmann had previously worked on The Last of Us’ adaptation as a co-showrunner, director, writer and producer.
HBO’s CEO Casey Bloy has said he is not worried about The Last of Us without Druckmann, stating the game director had “given us a good blueprint with the show”.
