Kylie Minogue has opened up about how she pulled off the “best prank ever” for April Fools Day. The music icon got in on a bit of mischievous fun yesterday by making fans believe that she was dropping a new EP.

The fake surprise release was called Hot Air Balloon For Two, with fans expressing excitement for the prospect of new music from the star.

However, the star was pulling everyone’s leg, and has now revealed on Instagram how she made the hilarious stunt happen.

The singer shared how she was watching a clip of Will Ferrell in character as Ron Burgundy listing the names of his favourite Kylie songs… jokingly making up the names of three fake songs on the spot called ‘Take Me To the River’, ‘Hot Air Balloon for Two’ and ‘Sydney Nights’.

“I was laughing at this clip… and then the idea just hit me,” Kylie told fans. “I thought, ‘wait, this could be fun!’ So I mocked up a whole EP, got Team Kylie to repost the clip just to plant the seed. Then I dropped a little teaser on my story. Midnight… mysterious.”

When the clock hit 12, she ‘announced’ to fans that it was out now, complete with the track list of Burgundy’s false song names. However, the link then took fans to the YouTube video for her 1992 song ‘What Kind of Fool (Heard All That Before)’.

Well played.

“Oh my god, this absolutely sent me,” Kylie admitted. “You know I love you all really.”

Fans shared their delight in the star’s mischief, one declaring in the comments that it was the “BEST PRANK EVER”, while another called her “such a goof”.

“Well done @kylieminogue This April fool loves you a lot,” a third wrote, while the official Anchorman account joked: “This is already Ron’s top album of all time.”

Meanwhile, another fan quipped: “Release the Tension Tour on DVD and all is forgiven.”
