Dean Gaffney has admitted he has been left “entertained” by pal Katie Price’s latest love life drama after the former glamour model married Lee Andrews in Dubai.

The quick-fire wedding earlier this year saw the mum-of-five tie the knot with the businessman just days after first meeting in person. And former EastEnders star, Dean, 48, confesses the coverage about her fifth wedding has him keen to see what comes next for the pair.

But, no matter what, he simply says: “As long as she’s happy.” Speaking to the Mirror, Dean told us: “Whatever Katie does, even if it’s just going to the shops, it ends up being written about. She’s been known for at least 30 years now, and you don’t sustain that level of attention without having something about you.

“As a model, Katie was one of the best in the business. Not many people could do it like she did – she just had that natural talent. Obviously now the general public seem to be more interested in her private life.

“I think it’s nice that she’s allegedly on good terms with Peter again, because when you’ve got children involved it’s important that both parents are on the same page. That’s a good thing.

“As for Katie’s love life, even as a friend it keeps me entertained. Let’s see what the next installment brings.”

Dean is used to to spotlight being on his own personal life, too. The actor starred in Albert Square on the BBC’s long-running soap on and off from 1993. But his time away from the camera often came under scrutiny too, with the star linked to a number of high-profile romances and gaining a reputation for his apparent womanising.

But it’s a tag he is keen to shrug off. And the dad-of-two revealed the close bond he has with his twin daughters, Charlotte and Chloe, who he welcomed as a teen.

Dean was just 17 when his ex-partner Sarah Burge became pregnant with their girls. But despite their young age, Dean said the pair were in a loving and “proper” relationship when their daughters were conceived.

“People sometimes forget that I was very young when all that happened,” he says. “I was 17 when my ex-partner fell pregnant and 18 when the girls were born and they were twins. At the same time, I was on the biggest show in the country, being watched by about 25 million people, nearly half the country. It was a lot.

“But I was lucky in one sense. It wasn’t just someone I’d met for a night or two, this was a proper relationship. I’m very grateful that my daughters were born out of love on both sides, if that makes sense. Of course we all love our children, that goes without saying, but I mean that their mum and I loved each other at the time.”

He went on: “There’s also a bit of a misconception about me. People sometimes think I’ve been out on the party scene my whole life, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. I woke up every day in the same house as my daughters until they were 18. Me and their mum did a good job raising them, if I do say so myself… They’re very polite girls.

“One of my daughters, Chloe, has given me two grandchildren, which is amazing. They’re lovely little characters with great personalities.

“One of my daughters got married recently, which was beautiful. I’ve always loved the film Father of the Bride, and I always knew that having daughters meant two things: number one, it was going to cost me an arm and a leg, and number two, one day they’d fly the nest, meet partners and get married.

“Now one of them has her own family and her own marriage, and it’s really nice to see. Me and their mum can look back at everything and think, considering everything we went through, we’ve actually done alright.”

Dean recently featured in his first movie, Reckless, alongside Vinnie Jones. And he admits he only landed the role after creating an audition tape while on holiday and after having a drink.

“We were four hours ahead in Dubai [when his agent called him], and I’d had a few Malibu and Cokes. So I had to run back to the apartment and do a self-tape. But I did it, sent it off, and two days later I got the role, which was great.”

He adds: “It was a low-budget British movie, but we had a great director, Elliott Montello, who was a really lovely guy. I’d never done a film before, so to actually see yourself on the big screen in something with that sort of scale was pretty special. We filmed it in three weeks, so everyone was really up against it. Vinnie was only on the film for four days, they got all his stuff done in that time. Vinnie’s a lovely guy.”
