A 10-year-old cyclist from Wrexham is being tipped for future success after impressing in national competition.
Ethan, from Summerhill, recently finished ninth in the under-12 category at an event at Newport Velodrome, competing against riders up to two years older.
The young rider, who trains with Wrexham Cycling Club, has been cycling since the age of two and now competes across multiple disciplines, including road racing, cyclocross, mountain biking and track.
This is Ethan’s second year competing internationally and in the summer he will head to the Netherlands to take part in the European Junior of Assen. After finishing fourth in last year’s competition, Ethan has set his sights on a podium finish this year.
“Ethan is very clear about his ambition — he wants to become a professional cyclist and to say we’re proud of him would be an understatement,” explained Ioan, Ethan’s dad.
“What makes us proudest is the way he supports younger riders and encourages his peers. At school he serves on the school council, is part of the ethos committee, and acts as both a sports ambassador and reading ambassador.
“As he continues to develop across multiple cycling disciplines, we’re incredibly excited about the next 18–24 months.
“Like many young athletes who are still growing, the equipment and travel costs can be significant, so we are always keen to hear from organisations that may wish to support his journey and be part of what we hope will be a very exciting period ahead.”
North Wales MS Sam Rowlands praised Ethan’s achievements.
He said: “Ethan’s record is truly impressive for someone so young and his determination and talent seems to hold no bounds.
“Ioan is now looking for sponsors so that his son can continue to climb up the rankings and compete against the very best.
“I am delighted to highlight Ethan’s achievements and wish him all the success for the future.”
