Swift bricks will be installed on homes in Leyland to support the declining species of bird.
Homes at Centurion Village, being built by David Wilson Homes, will have a total of 65 swift bricks which are hollow bricks in the exterior wall of homes designed to provide a nest for the birds.
Swift numbers in the UK have fallen in recent decades, with the RSPB reporting that for every 10 swifts in the UK in 1995, there were only three by 2022.

The plan forms part of what is described as a biodiversity strategy by David Wilson Homes and Barratt Homes.
Claire Jarvis, managing director at David Wilson North West, said: “For us, it’s really important that new build developments play a pivotal role in helping wildlife,” she said. “Features like swift bricks provide safe, long-term nesting opportunities for birds that are losing natural sites in our towns and cities.
“We were alarmed to hear about the stark decline of cavity-nesting birds like swifts. So, we’ve funded and worked with the RSPB and Manthorpe to design and manufacture a swift brick to integrate seamlessly into building walls, providing swifts with safe nesting sites. They are simple for us to install are make long-term differences to swifts.”
